Looking at the patient is hardly enough--and how the patient feels is not enough, either. The patient could have cancer all through his body(and lots of other things wrong with him) and still feel fine--for a while. But on the basis of more detailed examination and appropriate tests, the doctor may be able find out what ails him.

Sorry Pat, but it was my rephrasing of a story I heard, so yes because I labled him as an Objectivist music loving doctor, that makes him an Objectivist. If you want to create your own story where he's not an Objectivist music lover just do so, it's really that simple. But unfortunately in this story his an incompetent Objectivist music lover. Which now that I think about it almost goes without saying.
Both are substituting their perceptions for knowledge.

...is substituting theory for reality.
Read contextually, the patient thinks he must be all right because he feels good. That's theory, too.The doctor for some reason is harping on how the patient must feel, which is a methodological error, but his casual observation indicates something is wrong. The doctor really needs to find out what is wrong, and that would require tests--granted, how the patient feels is relevant information but it hardly settles the matter.

Which shows why the statements of subjectivist patients (like the many here) should be taken with a large grain of salt.

But no Mr. Doctor, I feel just fine. What do you mean you want to check my hearing and mental status? With tests.....? Can't I just listen to some music instead....cheers,
AJ :-)

your Sense of Humor organ is dead... inquire about a transplant.Mind you there's no particular risk to your health but you are making everyone around you sick.

I refuted it.But I'm quite ready to believe you think rather stupid caricatures of your opponents are funny. The real joke is that the doctor in question is as much of a subjectivist as his patient.
