Does pro Cd player sounds better than regular hi-fi one
or just more reliable? Thanks!
Follow Ups:
I'm intersted to buy a Marantz PMD320 which is in the similar
price range with Marantz CD5000, but I did not find the DAC
info of PMD320. Thanks!
My feeling is that in terms of audio quality, "pro" equipment is usually behind "consumer" products. Much of "pro" audio equipment is built for reliability and abuse because those are the conditions that they are exposed to. Obviously, there are exceptions to this rule, but if you want to save money, many cheaper "consumer" products will outperform the "pro" products.
On a real 'pro' machine, quality of contruction is usually much higher, which contributes to a good machine, plus the converters will often be better resulting in a better sound. A lot of the time so-called 'pro' machines are just normal hi-fi units with a different front panel and rack-ears stuck on. I have a Tascam CD601 which was built specifically for the broadcast market and had no 'consumer' equivalent. If you don't need the heavy build and special features, you're fine sticking with a good domestic player.
