If you're worried about proximity effect you ought to look at the Electro Voice RE16. It's called a Variable D (An EV patent) that eliminated what you're complaining about. Avoid the Continuous or Single-D mics as their proximity effect is pronounced. The RE 15 would be slightly cheaper bacuse it has no breath blast filter. Nothing cheap is ever good! Peace. James
Follow Ups:
The Shure SM-91 is a great mic w/ lots of uses but I don't think they make it anymore. There is a Beta 91 and a 300 series now but haven't had the opportunity to check them out.
Look at some PZM type mics. Manufacturers like Shure make mikes that are specifically aimed at this type of application. Shure SM91 or AKG C547BL would be an almost perfect solutions. Just tape it too the lecturn. AKG make the C747 which you will see (normally used in pairs) at many major conferences, though these are about £300 each. If undiciplined users are the problem Look at a radio tieclip solution. Sennheiser (a highly respected manufacturer in this field) make some excellent cheap radio kits, perfect for twitchy performers!Good luck
Regards Roland
Don't overlook the Crown PZM mics.
