All,I don't normally use the machine as a player, but
in playing some of the "cd24" discs I've made from
LP ( @ 24/88.2 ) the noise is distracting!!!!!!!Any way to quiet down the annoying high frequency
"computer type squeal" when used as a cd player?????
Also, has anyone replaced the HD with a larger HD??Regards,
Joe T.

Alesis put a 20 Gig HD in my machine after the original went down and it works great. I now have 30 hours of red book or 19 of 24/96 recording, the "computer noise" is the HD and cannot be avoided.

i know the noise, and i don't think you can turn it off. i think the whole running system is hard drive based, so if you want it on, it has to whine. now, i could be wrong, so if i am, don't nobody go giving me flames. anyway, i use one which has an upgraded drive. it is a 30 Gig too, i believe. it works just fine. it does crash every once in a while, rarely even, but no audio has ever been lost. it's a great box...if only it had a cd burner that was worth anything. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has been able to replace it with a faster burner. that would be HUGE for me.
I dont hear any squeal from mine?I just ordered a new HD, Ill let you know after I install it. I hear its a pain but do-able. I ordered a 30gig 5400rpm seagate. Thats the stock brand and they reputedly run a little cooler. I have heard of people using cheapo Western digitals tho with no problems. The masterlink OS will not see anything more than 28 gigs, but thats around 45 hours of record time- enough for most. slower 5400rpm are fine since your only doing two track even if it is 96k.
