First attempts at using a Mac PowerBook Pro running iTunes out to USB input on a DDDAC are pretty disappointing - contrary to my (perhaps misguided?) expectations that USB would outperform a transport.
iTunes is set to error correction , no enhancement and lossless import. Basically , it sucks. Flat as a pancake`,;^)
Any advice based on your experience on settings or alternative software for mac would be really greatly appreciated.
TIA
Follow Ups:
I recall Wes Phillips did a review of the Grace m902 in Stereophile and he found a significant improvement in the performance of the DAC going with SPDIF. He said that via USB, this unit was "uninvolving". So switching to spdif is worth a try.Are you able to check out your DAC by going directly from a transport?
My system sounds fantastic with iTunes and others report excellent results. Is the DAC built properly with a good power supply?
Is iTunes EQ off?
Hi ,
The DDDAC with SLA battery supply has been in my system for about a year now and it is working well but I just got the Mac last week and I'm entirely willing to suppose that my lack of knowledge is the root of the problem - which is why I called myself a Rank Amateur - cuz I am! `,;^D
I looked for an EQ in the iTunes menus but I couldn't find one, just an enhancement setting - which is off. (I think the iTunes might have an upgrade waiting which I'll download now and see if that helps.)
As for iTunes volume control, it doesn't seem to have any effect on USB out.
All this computer based music playback is completely new to me and I'm more or less just trying stuff hit and miss so I really appreciate your help, Thanks!
The EQ is along the bottom of the main window. Little rectangle that kind of looks like an EQ with sliders.
I dont use the error correction,, give that a try
