I decided to try the USB-Audio ASIO driver per Audio Engineer's rec. The driver does sound better than ASIO4All or the 1.8 version. It works just fine with my Foobar. My caveat is Winamp and other output devices. I can't seem to get this to work with my internet radio or other features associated with Winamp.
Is there a way to get this to work? Or is there another utility similar to Winamp that will work with this driver? Since I've paid for this driver. I intend to use it....I hope!
Follow Ups:
I got an email from the company saying that the USB-ASIO wasn't compatible with Winamp.Well after uninstalling and installing the driver several times. It WORKS!! Now I have internet radio through this direct ASIO output. It is significantly better than any of the Winamp outputs including ASIO4ALL.
Now if I can get it to accept video music feeds I'll be set.
Well finally.........
I got ASIO4ALL to at least work on my system.(PIII700-Foobar-USB to TRENDS AUDIO converter-Musical Fidelity DM25 dac).I am not very computer Illiterate(I forgot the plugin),but the sound is great!!!!I am not sure if I want to spend $65.00 for that other ASIO driver though.
Features aside, which do you prefer,Winamp or Foobar for sound?
I still have to figure out if I want to go all the way to I2S,which would mean another dac....
In your preference window for output devices in foobar you need to make it ASIO4ALL as the output device not (audio device on USB bus). Go to the ASIO plugins in preferences click on the ASIO4all and configure it. Make the first channel your left channel and the second channel your right. In these drop down boxes you have a tone tester. This way you can check to see if sound comes out of each speaker properly. Using the (ASIO4all) as output device will sound better than using the (audio device on USB bus).
The $65 driver does a better job than the ASIO4all...you can hear the difference. You'll notice your DAC always stays locked on the signal(if there's a signal lock light)..unlike the on/off when you start and stop the music with the freeware drivers.
I use the Winamp only for internet radio and Foobar for music off the HD.
Hello,
I was wondering if you could post or PM me which ASIO you used and exactly what you did to get it working in Foobar.I have had no luck with any of them.
I am using a trends audio USB to Spdif converter, then to my dac.Things do sound very good, but I am looking for better like most.Thanks.
No problem at all ..here's the site. It will cost you. It was $63 USD. I also use the Trends USB converter with great results. I was a little hesitant about trying this. It will do a demo test to make sure the driver will work on your system.
You will have to buy the driver in order to get the code to open up the menu on the driver.
