In Reply to: Re: ASIO4all-No, at least for Cards that Support ASIO posted by fmak on February 2, 2007 at 22:06:13:
That is what I thought. But even if the card has ASIO, the PLAYER needs to be able to access the asio driver. If the player doesn't have that option, then that is why ASIO4all came to mind, for use with PLAYERS that don't support asio.
Won't the ASIO4all work in this situation even if it is not exactly like true asio?
Follow Ups:
Well, if you have a card with ASIO drivers, you can use either Foobar or Winamp which has ASIO output plugins available. As for using ASIO4ALL with an ASIO driver... I am not sure if you ARE indeed using the ASIO side of the driver. I think ASIO4ALL uses the WDM side. The whole point of ASIO4ALL is to add latency control for soundcards that do NOT have native ASIO drivers... so I don't think ASIO4ALL "knows" to use ASIO drivers when they are available.
I think ASIO4ALL will always piggybacks on the WDM driver.
Most modern ASIO capable cards DO have WDM support as well...
Thanks (I think) for the explanation.See I found a great player that is awesome for things like cover art and lyrics, and playlists, etc. But lousy for audio, and I was hoping that the Asio4all would help.
But I guess this is a time I can't have my cake and eat it too.
It is your fault really. See, normally i wouldn't have even thought about not using Foobar because of its crossovers. But you did mention the Allocator, which got me thinking about other players.
Sigh.
Not a huge deal, i think I have another solution.
that's kind of strange. asio4all is an asio driver to applications. if your application takes asio4all, i'm surprised that it does not accept any other asio drivers.
That is the thing dkwng, it doesn't support any asio. But ASIO4Alls manual is just really confusing:Sometimes, the audio software indeed would not provide an ASIO control panel option. This is the case with e.g. Winamp and Foobar 2000, for which ASIO output plugins exist. For configuring ASIO4ALL with in these applications anyway, you can launch the off-line control panel from the desktop. Note that the off-line control panel launcher works like a mini-ASIO-host of its own and does not reflect the current device status
of any instance of ASIO4ALL that may be open at the same time! What is weird, is that Foobar and Winamp DO have asio selections, and ASIO4All shows up.
Anyhow, I was thinking that I could use the off-line control panel for this program that doesn't support asio?
i think you are confusing the asio set up with asio as an audio driver. if your player does not support asio audio driver. that is. there is not much you can do. the off-line set up is to set up the asio driver properties just in case your sound card does not support native support asio.
Thanks, it is clear now!!
