Sorry...My brain was off when I posted that last reply.
Your manual is available here:

Turn to page 38.
Notice that there are both analog AND digital connections from the drive to the card. Which one(s) do you currently have connected?
Now - since you have the box checked that I made you go check, you have the drive enabled for digital playback over the IDE cable.
Have page 67 a read under "inputs" - it says right there: CD digital spdif input via 2 pin molex connector on the card....
Maybe you have analog connected and not digital - and that is why nothing shows up when you turn up the volume for that input.
OR maybe you need to REMOVE that checkbox - maybe enabling digital over IDE DISABLES the digital output on the drive. I doubt it - but if you can't get the digital out on the drive working, then I would try that.
One question though... WHY???
Follow Ups:
Because he can! Seriously, I became aware of this "digital out" feature of my newer CD-RW unit, and that the Audigy 2 supports it. I'm quite sure that I disconnected the "analog out" (4 conductor) which the old CD-ROM used, and plugged in the "digital out" from the new CD-RW unit to the connector on the Audigy board. Still no change. In other messages here, I recall reading that what appears on the 2-wire input is not a regulation SPDIF signal. But you'd think that the Audigy board would allow for that, since it's connected as designed?Other reasons: with the old cd-rom, at least, sometimes I got skipping, which "may" be due to processor/io load issues. I thought I might evade that problem using the alleged SPDIF in vs the IDE cable. Also: perhaps higher quality signal? The Audigy 2 is perhaps a "quality" DAC (as compared to my $40 DVD player, at least)...
I did not read the web address you specified (I can't load it...I am stuck with dial-up S L O W).OK: to remind you, the CD-RW is hooked up to IDE to MoBo and the 2-pin "digital out" Molex to the Audigy. NB: the 4-pin analog is NOT connected. OK, now:
Creative Mediasource Player -> Tools -> Settings -> Playback, de-select "system default." Then, using the Surround Mixer, the input appears to be via the "CD Audio" (which I understand is the Analog input!!!), as opposed to Wave. If you enable the "Digital Playback" option in Player, the output is coming through the Wave device. In neither case does input appear via "CD Digital."
More fiddling, and I find out that "CD Digital" input (in Mixer) works after I've disabled the digital out under Device Manager (AND in Media Souce Player, probably) as per last message. Now I get CD playing with Wave and "CD Audio" (Analog) muted. None of this in the Creative Soundblaster docs, at least that I've seen.
