I agree with Eric. I just bought one with the new 4Xac power supply, which increases the price a bit. I mostly listen to vinyl, but everything sounds so good on the USBTD, I can't stop listening to it. I know this isn't very scientific, but all I really care about is whether it gets me excited about listening to music, which it does! Just about everything sounds more musical and engaging, including my favorite internet radio station, Radio Paradise....

Great Stuff!! My favorite too. one of the best radio stations i've ever heard, bar none. Especially through the Nixon!I want to get the upgrade PS next, and maybe try out some NOS tubes. any ideas?

I haven't compared the stock power supply with the upgraded 4Xac, but I'll bet it is a nice upgrade for the money.NOS tubes are pretty cheap to try out if you don't get out hand. I bought a used Bugle Boy from Doug's Tubes (http://www.dougstubes.com/6dj8.htm). The Amperex Orange Globe is supposed to be the best 6DJ8 for the Scott Nixon DAC (search the Asylum to find out the perferred versions of the Orange Globe), but I'm happy with the used Bugle Boy and it is very cheap at $15 from Doug's Tubes. The Bugle Boy results in a warmer, tubey sound, which is very musical and engaging, especially listening to acoustic music or rock. I also bought a new JJ tube for $10, but I haven't spent much time with it yet to get a sense of whether it is much better than the stock tube.
Did you get any improvements from burn-in on the USTD? I've had it for about a week and it has burned in for about 50-75 hours. It sounds great with no burn-in, but I'm curious what I have to look forward to.
Thanks for the tube recommendations, just what i was looking for.I got mine pretty soon after it was released (last spring), and i was cycling through a lot of ancillary equipment at the time. So in short, i can't remember details about break in. I can say it definitely feels like it's "mellowed" over the course of the year, for whatever that's worth. Maybe i've just adjusted to it - it's quickly become my primary source - but it just sounds right now.
of course, now that it's all settled in i want to try tweaking it with the PS and new tubes.
do you know if the nixon supports playing protected aac files (itune)? thanks
It's not a function of the dac, but rather the player (eg iTunes).
yeah Radio Paradise is my fav.
