My current setup is PC in othe room with lots of harddrive space. All CD"s are stored on this hardrive. On the PC I leave open the iTunes program. In my listening room I use an Apple laptop with iTunes program open. The laptop is connected to a Scott Nixon USB Tube DAC. The iTunes on the laptop recognizes the ripped files that are stored on the PC. The files are transferred from the PC to the laptop by Wi-fi.
Are there any sonic negatives to this setup, specifically using Wi-fi to transfer the data?
Follow Ups:
I will answer in two part:A. No, none, because network transfers like this by necessity are perfect, that is bit for bit.
B. That said, there could still be a "yes" if you can't get the data across the wifi network fast enough to play it. A track will effectively skip or pause, though in fact it is just waiting to get the next part of the file it needs. This wouldn't normally happen if you are using a decently speedy network, and there is not a nasty amount of interference. Interference can cause packets to be dropped or corrupted such that they need to be resent (cf. A.), which cuts down speed.

Absolutely correct! ... transfers of files in either direction = no problem-o.
Transfer of "real time" audio feeds (like HiRez Internet Radio, direct file play from PC to Mac) = may encounter added jitter, file data & packet data retries, depending on the bandwidth requirement.
* WiFi "real time" transfers won't be a problem with oridinary CD quality files. 802.11a, b, g, etc. are supposed to all be downloading/uploading > > 12 mbps > > good enough for 16bit/44 "regular quality" CD file bandwidth ... except for possible added jitter.
* WiFi "real time" transfers may be a problem with HiRez SACD, DVD-A, 24bit/96K quality music files (and hgher quality Internet feeds) as you get some really bigger bandwidth intensive 24bit/96k (and up) files, the jitter problems will increase to the point that you will stop doing it.
Best advise: get a Mac (with 802.11g) on each end of your WiFi daisy chain or settle for a two step transfer, files first, then listen.
I have decided to buy an external harddrive to use with the MAC. This way I do not have to worry about any issues with Wi-fi
This answers my post on wires or no wires, thanks for the guy pointing me in this direction on this post, "me newbie" I'm doing pretty much the same as the poster, but using Linux based OS "Ubuntu" from one PC that has over 250GB of music WI-FI to my other Linux box utilizing the Aopen Tube board, that PC feeds to one of my Meng Chinese tube amps out to two huge old school Yamaha speakers, sounds pretty good, I don't have a real keen Audiophile ear yet, but I like the fact I got this all working, old school meets new school.
