I would appreciate any suggestions for a good but quiet Media PC. My budget is $1000 or less. I'll be using this unit for internet surfing, watching cable TV, listening to music, watching movies and recording all of the last three mentioned to the HD.This PC will be attached to my audio system by way digital coax for sound and DVI, HDMI or S video. I plan to use a 42 inch LCD as the monitor.Never done this before so any help would be terrific.

Gmood,Here is a good resource for building a quiet windows PC:
Also, I would strongly second the suggestion of a Mac mini (the latest version with intel chips can run Mac OS X and Windows XP). Also, it includes "front row" and an tiny IR remote which allows you to select music from your listening chair.
Alternatively if you are not interested in the remote and running windows, an older G4 12'' ibook laptop would work well and gives you an extra screen.
I will be using my new Macbook with an external 400GB hard drive and USB DAC (Wavelength Brick). I plan to use this as a central system for TV, movies, and music as well.
Good luck,
Rene
PS: Gmood, nice to cross paths again.

Thanks for the tip OFC. I was looking over the Mac today. I didn't see where it offered interactive connections for cable TV or satellite inputs. The size is perfect though..I wanted the ability to use it as a TV tuner and DVR also. I don't see these features unless I missed something? Can this unit use the Microsoft Media programs?
I'm using the DVI output from my mini to an lcd tv but not as a tuner. Although I have no experience with this product it looks interesting and would do what you are looking for.
I didn't know this existed! The Macs are really special!! I like how compact they make their equipment.
