Of course the first part is subjective, but I like the small Porsche/Lacie style enclosures. Low noise is important since I only have a small place and will probably have to keep it in the same room as the music system.I would like to use two 400-500 GB Hard Drives (Samsung, Seagate) in external enclosures. Any recommendations for good enclosures (Macally, etc.)?
Alternatively, any recommendations for a complete external HD (Lacie, Iomega, etc)?
Any things I am forgetting: RAID, Spin-down of hard drive when not in use, etc. ?
Thanks in advance!!
Rene

I have and like the Lacie Brick. It is also much quieter than their triple interface extreme model that I now use as my backup.
OFC, thanks for your response. I justed posted a short comment on my experience so far one thread up...I got a Lacie Porsche HD and that one is amazingly quiet :)

You probably can not find any quiter and better than the "Fan-Less" G-Technology drives. Unfortunately these are complete sets with drives inside not enclosures only, but generally they are goood enough for daily HD video editing so would be ok for music storage as well. I am using a pair of 500 GB drives since May without any problem. USB2, F400, FW800, e-Sata connection provided. If you can use SCSI or Fibre Channel, check Fibrenetix RAID protected disk array as well (up to 4.5 TB), very quiet, really professional for your valuable music assets.
Thanks very much for your suggestion. I did see the G-drives at a Mac dealer in the past and their fanless enclosure is very nice and this does look like a great option.Do you happen to know what HD is used inside (Samsung, Wetern Digital, Seagate)?
Thanks,
Rene
