In Reply to: Can EAC rip directly to FLAC? If so, how? (nt) posted by marc g. on November 23, 2006 at 21:08:32:
For instructions, go here and scroll down about three-quarters of the way down the page to "Step 8". I think the -8 compression is too slow to be worth the big increase in compression time, so I use -6. The wildcard expressions passed to flac.exe will automatically tag the files with the info in the UI for Artist, Album, track title, etc.

That method effectively rips directly to .flac. I've been using it for quite some time and its a no-brainer once its set up.
I should have made that clearer.EAC rips to WAV, then converts the WAV to FLAC, adding the tags. Then it deletes the WAV unless you choose not to in the options. So it's the same end result as if it did rip directly to FLAC with no end user intervention. I did my whole collection this way also (about 850 CDs). Works great.
I'll look into this method as I have the second half of my collection still to rip. The first half I did with dbPowerAMP but wanted to see if going the EAC route sounds any better.
