Hey everyone, I have an IBM laptop and would like a better connection to my mid-fi system (Rotel amp, Klipsch speakers).I am wondering if there are any decent sound cards available for this connection. I am using the stock card now and it is garbage. Not looking for an enormous investment here.

I will look in to both options. Your advice is much appreciated.
Hi,I've used the Echo Indigo soundcard that fits in the PC card slot on most laptops. I like the fact that it fits in the laptop and isn't a seperate piece of hardware like the USB-type solutions. It's a pretty good card. It does up to 24-bit, 96 kHz. I generally just use 16/44 (CD quality).
Note that there are several models of Indigo:
(1) Indigo: stereo output only, no inputs ~$129
(2) Indigo I/O: stereo output and stereo input ~$179-199
(3) Indigo DJ: Dual stereo outputs, no inputs ~179-199I've been using the Echo Indigo I/O because I want the inputs. If you just want the output, you could use the basic Echo Indigo and save some bucks. I'm not sure if the basic Indigo is still available, though. I know that you can get the I/O and DJ models through Amazon or Musician's Friend or wherever.
Alternately, if you only use iTunes, you could get an Airport Express and connect to it wirelessly. Then, you can still use the laptop around the house without being physically plugged into the stereo. Very nice.
Good luck.

..especially if you want a digital output.
If you wanna go a little higher end theres the Emu 1616 and 1616m for around $400. You could also go with one of the USB sound cards or dacs, ive seen some that can run of the USB power or batteries.
