I have been playing with Winamp Pro 5.31 with the Otachan ASIO plugin SSE2 and ASIO4ALL wrapper. The midrange from this combination is simply outstanding with my Cosecant USB Dac.
Has anyone else tried this player with the Otachan plugin?

Try the usb-audio.com ASIO driver. It replaces also the
poor usb-audio.sys of MS. This is a must, if you take it serious.
A demo is available! All other ASIO driver will still play through the
usb-audio.sys driver, that's why they can't beat above! To me JRMC plus usb-audio.com ASIO driver is the best setup you can
get when running a USB-DAC.I also tested otochan (even sse3)compilations. Nothing comes close to above.
If you run JRMC. Get yourself a RAMDISK. Play the files from RAMdisc.
It'll be hard to find a better setup.KLS
The usb-audio ASIO driver is hardware specific in that it will only work with specific components listed on their site. I was unable to get it to work with my dac. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
Hi Steve.I have a PCM2707 as USB receiver and I2S converter on my DIY DAC and it works perfect.
The listed HW just says that the HW comes with the driver.
It should work on all USB-audio devices recognized by Microsoft.
There is an issue with the host-application. With foobar you
do not have access to the driver properties. Anyhow -- It works
great without changing them. With J.River you can even access and change the ASIO driver parameters.
Though sometimes it is a bit tricky to get it installed. You might want to deinstall your old usb-device first and start the whole setup from scratch.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.
I've been using foobar 8.3 > ASIO2ks > Stello usb dac and take kmixer out via Lynn's recomendation. I've gotten really good results I think.
anyway, I tried the usb-audio asio driver and it worked... but it beeps every 30 sec or so... is that because i don't have a licence? I have all Sounds selected as none (sound & audio devices) ... but this beep gets through every 30 seconds.Hard to evaluate through the beep... not sure it beats ASIO2KS.
Yes. The beep is the demo limitation. Still, you should be able
to get a feeling how it works. We tested it on different high-end rigs. All of us came to the
same conclusion, that it is superior to other setups.By the way did you try a Monster Ultimate Performace USB cable?
Selecting the right USB-cable can also make a huge difference!
It beeps until you buy the license. Also I did have to de-install Asio4all or else they would conflict with each other and crash my computer...
That's correct. KLS
thanks... so the "advantage" of using usb-audio over asio2ks is that usb-audio replaces a windows driver and its replacement driver is "better" ? thanks for the info...
I've serched Winamp for Otachan plugin and dont see it.
Here you go:It's #4

Can WinAmp play ALAC files?
Yes; use the Winamp Essentials plugin.
You are right. I also prefer it to J. River.
