"Is this a feature of Asio4All? Does the Freeway have a real Asio driver?"Sample rate is independent of the driver and ASIO. The Driver usually only sets the sample rate or sample rate range.
Freeway and Off-Ramp have a real ASIO driver. You can use several different ASIO plug-ins, and they have different sounds. I think I have about 20 of them for the old Foobar and 5-6 for the new Foobar.
Follow Ups:
If the purpose for using an asio i/f is to avoid corruption of the data stream by other modules, how can different versions have different sounds?I'm looking for an interface to provide bit-perfect conversion from sound file - or more pedantically pcm data output from a player (Winamp 2 or Foobar 8/9) - to spdif. Surely not rocket science.
This is what I query about computer audio. Some buffs here say bits are bits but those in hifi know that this is nopt so; it is how the bits are transmitted and handles at the interfaces that also matter a lot.Unfortunately there is no clarity (in this world of info freedom and transparency) in computer audio, with some outrageous claims about this & that and usb at 44.1/16 sounding best. There is complete failure to take into account such things as dynamic range, s/n and all the electronics to go with it.
Good question, I wish I knew why but they do sound different.
Any thoughts on the latest ASIO plug-ins for Foobar 0.9 vs. your favorites for 0.8? As I've said, I've compared the latest ones for 0.9 and am no longer hearing a difference with the best for 0.8 (although admittedly the original ones for 0.9 seemed to have some problems).
I'm so buried in orders that I have not had much chance to experiment. I would like to compare the latest ASIO for Foobar 0.9. Which one do you like?
I'm just using the latest one off this page...and I see it has changed again since I last updated. Somebody is busy doing something with it...
