I'm just curious, isn't setting IRQ priority worthless if you have ACPI enabled and are sharing IRQs?Have you tried disabling ACPI (and installing WinXP as "Standard")?
I have not tried any of this, and am not an expert, but these are the first thoughts that came to my head.
I had tried this settings on "Win XP embedded" with Standard PC configuration. The effect is quite noticeable when many device connected (i.e. Harddisk,CDROM,Network card).
BTW, I didn't catch this before but, "Win32PrioritySeparation (REG_DWORD)=0x18" is exactly the same as going to the System Control Panel - click on Advanced - click on Performance Settings - click on Advanced - and change Processor Scheduling from Programs to Background Services. This is a well-known tweak for DAWs and PCs as music transports.
Oops, I didn't notice the post by "Debunk" before I made my last statement. But anyway, I said it a little nicer.
It sets the task as the absolute highest priority, not sharing with other 'high priority' tasks - that setting is not available through the GUI, and the task will following the change not be able to have its priority altered by the GUI.Now IRQ settings.
IRQs should not be shared, if you want the lowest latency connection to a device. However, most Mobos are automatically assigning grouped IRQs to port types (typical is IRQ 21 sharing for USB). This behaviour can on some motherboards be over-ridden to great effect by manual IRQ allocation, set in BIOS.
Beware, if you get it wrong you end up no better off than before you started (and may cause system errors too!)
