Why not upgrade iTunes to version 7.0 it automatically rebuilds when it's started up.If you loose info on a song you can select the songs or group of songs and do a Advanced->Get Track Names
That will make the thing work just fine.
Follow Ups:
I tried switching to it and when I import artwork it converts it to very low resolution. Older versions didn't do this. The cover art feature where you can flip through the CD covers is kind of neat, but I have over 2,000 CDs in my library so it is impossible for me to find anything that way.Even if you don't care about the art work, if you go to Apple.com in the discussion forums you will read a lot of people screaming about various problems they've had with 7.0 and switching back to an earler version, which I also did.
It looks like Apple screwed up this time.
I see they just announced 7.01 where they claim " iTunes 7.0.1 addresses stability and performance issues with Cover Flow, CD importing, iPod syncing, and more"
Could they have been any more vague? What does "and more" mean? I would stay away until they figure this out.
Thanks for the "heads up". New is not always better.
Hi Gordon, thanks for the response. I am going to upgrade my laptop before the end of the year, so I'm in no rush to update iTunes or the OS on my existing computer. I just don't understand why my library has suddenly lost a large amount of artist names.
