Yes, you can play/use SB and Foobar at the same time. Slimserver can run in the background and you can do what ever programs you like on the computer - this could be Foobar, and any other programs you want to use. SB has nothing to do with your regular computer audio system, nor with your computer soundcard.I've often have 3 or 4 SB's playing different things in different rooms and am using Foobar and running other programs on the computer. No problems at all.
Follow Ups:
Once you have a SB set up can you just move it to another part of the house if you want and just connect to the PC or do you have to go thru setup each time you move it. For example, I would like to use one in my garage and my house but I'm not in the garage enough to warrant getting two. So I figure when I head out into the garage I'll just take the SB out there. Of course there would be speaker/receiver combo already setup in the garage....Ron
Once the Squeezebox is set up the once, that's it. You can unplug it and move it anywhere else within range of your wireless coverage. So your idea would work fine.Note that there are a few options to increase the signal strength. If its a SB2, you can swap to a larger antenna. Can also place a larger antenna on the router and place both boxes at a height. The antenna's are expensive but you might get a deal on Ebay (?) or Craigslist. Also note the size of the screw on part of the antenna, there's a bigger and smaller size, the SB has the smaller (you'll have to look at these and find out what they're called).
There's also wireless network repeaters that will pick up the signal and pass it along to areas ostensibly outside the routers reach.
But you might already be fine in the Garage, only way to know is take the SB in there and try.
Getting the wireless signal in the garrage can sometimes be a bit of a problem. Frequently garrages are lined with significantly thicker sheetrock than other internal walls in the house (since you are SUPPOSED to have a car in there with flammable liquids, most fire codes require thicker sheetrock to try and keep a fire in the garrage out of the house). I have my workbench with all the test equipment out in my garrage (car in the garrage? Ha ha ha!) and could not get the SB to get a decent signal no matter what I did. Sometimes it would get a signal for 10 seconds then give up etc. I finally gave up and ran cat5.It might work fine for you if your wireless access point is very close to the garrage, but be warned you might have a lot of problems getting a signal out there.
With the wireless it's no problem at all if you have a wireless signal where you want to go. With the wired, it's not a problem either if you have an ethernet port (wired to your network) to in the room.
