Foobar 0.8.3 does everything I want it to, so I don't see any reason to change.
Follow Ups:
I,How do you manage files?
See I have a "CD" mentality- meaning that I like to listen to an album by one artist.
Foobar seems to like most players to be set up for a "song" mentality.
On the new version you can get the album list to show up in the player window (not as a seperate window) and shows the different artist's albums.
I can't seem to get 8.3 to do that for my wavs and que sheets.
I have albums stored hierarchically in subdirectories. For instance, I have a directory called 'Jethro Tull' and a subdirectory of it called 'Aqualung'. When I want to play Aqualung, I open Windows Explorer and drag the Aqualung subdirectory into the Foobar window. If I want to see album art, I just use an image display program like xnview. Nothing fancy here.
It provides you with much better user interface layout options. My heavily customized UI layout is just about perfect now, at last. :-)
S,I totally agree.
Have you found a good lyric plug in, or an info box that will keep track of how many times a file has been played.
Right now, I have a libray tree, playlist switcher, cover art, playlist info, and an lyric box (which is lame).
Is there a way to make my own lyric files, and have it load that?

Another pic...it was a pain to write the playlist script to sort out the names so that things like "The Flaming Lips" appear in the correct order next to names like "Bela Fleck" and band names like "Fleetwood Mac". :)This required some fancy file tagging too...I had to set all the properties like Total Tracks, Disc Number, and Total Discs to get my multi-CD formatting (and individual songs, which I display with the album and year on the same line as the artist) to look right.

There are a couple of lyrics plug-ins, but I've been avoiding them because they save the lyrics in the file (using a tag like LYRICS). There is nothing really wrong with this, I just like to keep track of my file modification dates. I'm still waiting for a plug-in that just retrieves the lyrics from the internet whenever you play a song. The latest version (0.9.3 I think) of Foobar does support automatic play counts (including remembering the last time played for each file, and the number of times played). Unlike previous attempts at doing this via plug-ins, the new official version saves the data in a seperate file somewhere, so it doesn't need to modify your music files every time you play them (in order to update the data). The trick is getting at this data...I added it to my TrackInfo by using the new %play_count% and %last_played% tags.
Thanks Scrith,THis is very cool.
I believe there is a plug in named "lyric show", that WILL search the internet automatically, and then create a local file for each album.
Unfortunately, I am on the road so I don't have the specifics off the top of my head...except that I got to it through the foobar site under 3rd party pluigins.
It worked great for things like REM, but it didn't work at all for anything less mainstream like the Sisters of Mercy, etc. Which unfotunately means it doesn't really work at all for my collection.
I guess that is why I like the newer version...it does all of that from the same program, and displays art automatically.DOn't get me wrong, I have had 8.3 for a long time and was happy doing as you did (except that I would just hit "open" and select the cue sheet I wanted to hear, and just do with out the cover art. But with 9.3 I get all of that and it is esier to use once you get it configured.
