Well. About different ASIO versions, I still have no digged into code but I guess all are right. As a sidenote the >0.44b versions use the recent ASIO 2.1 official code instead 2.0.Small design changes or optimizations at the code can impact sound quality when there is no a properly intermediate asynchronous hardware buffer. PCI cards use synchronous DMA transfers directly to the main hardware buffer, so sure hardware and software can influence the jitter.
Direct Input Monitor is the monitored routing from hardware Input to Output. It was created to control the volume, pan or DSP in general at Realtime so it is a feature hardcoded in the soundcard that must have the ASIO 2.0 and later compatible soundcards. It means that the software has not the "metronome", instead it depends on the soundcard, which is far more accurate.
Follow Ups:
Thanks for the explnation about Direct Monitor. I have found that checking it improves the sound. But some here think this is rubbish. On my system, I prefer 0.47a to 0.51, which gives a 'mellow' kind of voicing.
But seriously, enabling virus protection and firewall has far more negative effect and gives hf an edge that is not pleasant.
In fact with standard ASIO versions Direct inpur monitor gives agressive distortion. But while more detailed is the build, there is less and less distortion. Did you tried it with the new 051_1?I´m working on the 047a but it is not as detailed and liquid as the new 051_1 with DIM activated and buffer at 0.
As well if I set the Nvidia control panel to performance all is more detailed but have less bandwidth. Of course antivirus must be a horrible.. There should be a Windows nuke version..
Tried 0.51_2 and did not like it. 0.47a sounds better in my system.
