I agree with the jist of your post.BTW. Storm D02A DAC has internal USB-I2S direct, not to spdif (my typo).
The problem is you can't audition these DAC's before buying, so you are forced to "pre-screen" them based on the literature. It also helps that Storm D02A with separate PS box for Li battery only costs around $500, where as TwinDAC+ with battery supply costs around $2900. If I'm going to risk a blind purchase, I'd rather do it on the cheap :)

It seems like they (he) is having some serious issues if you follow the head-fi discussion.
I understand that people don't want to take a chance on something that expensive..especially from such a small mfg. I'd gladly let people listen to mine...but I live in the middle of nowhere!

I'm thinking about upgrading from my Firestone Fubar II. I really like the sound of the the Fubar, but it's so light that the weight of the cables are moving it around. I was thinking about trying the Stereo-link 1400HD.
