I am planning to build a 3 way active speaker and I am planning to use Transcendent T8 for the woffer. CAn I use the Transcendent SE OTL for the tweeter with Raven 2.0?
Follow Ups:
Just remember Raven 2.0 has DC resistance <4 Ohms and Impedance around 4 Ohms. Most current speakers that use Raven are using either a resistor or transformer to bring up the impedance. Without the additional resistance, it's a hostile environment for something like SE OTL, and with something like matching transformer, it kind of defeats the purpose of transformerless amps, doens't it? Not that it would necessarily sound bad..
The Transcendent amps tend to have low output Z, probably can handle the 4-ohm load OK. Give it a try. Using a resistor in series with the ribbon results in a Pyrrhic victory, because the resistor itself sucks up power and would color the sound as well. If necessary, a transformer or autoformer, e.g., the Zeros, is a better way to go, IMO. Zeros at 2X are VERY transparent and give you an 8-ohm load in this case.
Either that or use the Raven 3.2 MMX. It is 8 ohms and can XO at 800hz! Of course they are $1700US each. http://www.e-speakers.com/ Also check out the 8 ohm Aurum Cantus G-Ribbons on the same site.
