Greetings all
I am still in love with my MP-3 and M60 Atma-Spheres that I built from a kit. I have moded M60's put the Mp-3 is stock except Hex-Freds in the power supply.
I listen 90% to vinyl, and I want to do some caps changes.
Questions?
What are the most important caps to changes?
Can I strap the 47uF with a V-cap .47uF to save some money?
Thanks
Bryan

...instead of the V-Cap TFTF. The SCP sounds at least as good and is significantely less expensive. I also recommend the Cardas Golden Ratio as an even-less-expensive alternative. I'm no GEA, but AFAI can determine, they're very quick, clean, and neutral. The SCPs are even more so. You might consider the CGR for the fono-output cap.I've used SCPs in the 1st-position coupler of my ASL Hurricanes and CGRs in the 2nd position. I can send you a hi-res pic if you like; let me know.
Bryan,I'm not sure which 47uF cap you are referring to. As far as coupling caps go, the complement in the MP-3 is:
- 4 x 0.022 in phono stage (use AudioCap teflon or Vcap here)
- 4 x 0.47 at output of phono stage (good place for 0.47 Vcap)
- 4 x 0.047 in linestage (use AudioCap teflon or Vcap here)If you're trying to improve the unit one bit at a time, I'd go after the 0.47 and the 0.022 in the phono, first - then the 0.047 in the linestage.
Hi,What are the recommended voltage ratings for these caps?
A rating of 400 volts DC is fine for any position in the MP-3 or MP-1. High voltage supplies (regulated) run between 225V and 265V, depending on type and revision.
