Hello all,Just two simple questions about A-S gear.
I own a MP3+M-60MkII.3 combo. My current CD player doesn’t have balanced outputs and I am wondering which is the best way to connect the single-ended cable from source to the MP3. Through the balanced inputs, via RCA-to-XLR adapter? Or through the tape monitor RCA inputs? I tried both but do not have a definite opinion the sonic differences.
Second question. I noticed that in one monoblock I cannot reduce the DC offset current to a perfect zero reading even if the corresponding screw is turned all way counterclockwise. The reading on the meter is slightly positive; I would say 0,05 : 0,08. Is this a sign of malfunction? Something can be made to achieve a better result?
Follow Ups:
Either method of connection is acceptable for the CD, and there should be no sonic differences. The DC offset issue is something that pops up once in a while, and is related to variances in tube manufacture. Randomly swap a couple of power tubes from one column to the other (your M-60 has two columns of four tubes each), and retry the DC control. You might have to do a couple of swaps before the problem is remedied.
Also, while you are swapping the tubes, it is a good opportunity to do the visual inspection and make sure you've not lost one or two. Dead tubes in the amp can make it impossible to zero the DC.

This is the most common cause of a _totally_ dead tube, yes. If either of the two links are blown, the tube should be replaced.

Thanks for your help!I will try to swap the tubes and see what happens then.
It worked! I swapped 4 power tubes as suggested and now the DC offset can be set at zero without any problem. Thanks for your great help!
