pickel, hi. tubes very similar. dissipation slightly different. peak anode current different. if you don't have a tube manual look up characteristics for these two on Duncan Amps web site. If you are into tubes get the reprint of the GE Essential Characteristics book published by Audio Amateur: lots a resellers including Antique Electronics Supply. Every "bottlehead" needs a tube manual. :)

Thank you.
Bill, hi. No prob. Are you looking to retube something, build something, or just curious about these tube types? They really fall out of European color television set circuits: horizontal output drive. No matter. Check on: 6KG6 and 40KG6 as cross refs. My favorite in this whole family is pretty much extinct due to overuse and abuse by the CB linear amplifier builders - the 6LF6. [6LX6,6KD6,etc] The best ones were made by Amperex and had super rugged glass envelopes that made the GE versions look pathetic. Misapplied as they were by linear amplifier bozos huge stocks of these things were literally burned up. Sorry about the rant. I hate aggessive stupidity.
Elektron,
Sorry about delay in answering.
I am building a second mono OTL - Circlotron type. It was designed by Alan Kimmel and published in VTV Magazine a while back. I used 8 Svetlana EL509s in the first amp.. When I purchased 8 tubes for the second amp., I was sent some EL509 and some EL519. Hence the question. Maybe I'll get another 4 EL509 of the same brand to avoid any problems of matching two quads of EL509.

pickle, hi. sorry for the belated reply. Hmmm. I just went through a long mental gyration where you could use the 519 mixed with the 509 if you balanced the number of 519 on each side of the totem pole push pull. This thinking is wrong headed. It has been too many years since I have thought about this OTL stuff. My last foray was H3aa many years ago. The circlotron approach is an elegant one. If one were going to do OTL this approach would seem ideal. How nice if a speaker maker would decide that a 64 Ohm voice coil would be appropriate.
