Had the great pleasure of seeing Arlo and the Family last night. He is an American icon and treasure and you must see this man and his family on tour! And hear him perform some of his father's music.
Arlo's daughter, Sarah Lee, has a great voice, sounds like a number of well known country music singers. Go see Arlo!
Follow Ups:
I haven't seen Arlo for a few years now, although I saw him when he toured with Pete Seeger and also later when he did some tours with John Prine. Arlo is a performer who always gives his best for shows, and I have always remendously enjoyed him. He is at his best with other strong performers. For an outstanding Arlo album, I would strongly suggest "Outlasting the Blues" .
That's a great one. His strongest work, if you ask me; an unusually powerful album that works really well, almost as a concept album. Much thanks to the excellent band on this outing: not just some studio musicians doing a bunch of nice tunes but more like a real working band contributing to the consistent touch and a uniform feel throughout the different pieces. Among his more serious and cohesive recordings for sure, with a very distinct tone.I've seen him in action in both upstate New York and in Helsinki, and there's almost no one to compare him with, as an act and as an all-round musician and simply a great guy. Only David Bromberg. The twin peaks of American music!
They should be more on our musical map.
I'm a big fan and you're right he is an icon. He still puts on wonderful shows that are fiting for the whole family. For my own taste, I have found his story telling songs have gotten a little too long, but that comes with the package so I can deal with it. He really takes me back to my youth and will always have a special place in my heart.Sara Lee has at least one album that I'm aware of with Johnny Irion entitled, "Exploration". Very pleasant in its entirety and there are a couple of very good songs. Haven't heard it in awhile but remember liking it alot.
