What, then: the distortion, the hum, the rumble, the constriction of dynamics, the available frequency range, the user-(un)friendliness, the expected life span, or...what? The smell? These also take a lot less space on your shelf.

Or both. Very few here are former, too many are latter.I do prefer the smell of LPs, however. It's nice and vaguely evocative of something I can't quite put my fingers on.
Speaking of fingerprints, did I mention error correction capability?
Even mediocre LP system can give a sense to the music that CDs can't. Why do you think they are finally acknowledging the fetishism?
