....sorry I've been AWOL lately. I'm waist deep in all kinds of crap right now. I haven't even had time to download and listen to this latest round at all. Too much happening.....
Part of the problem may be that the jazz tastes of many on this site are limited largely to late bop/hard bop of the mid-1950s to the mid- to late 1960s, i.e., the Blue Note &/or Prestige or similar recordings of that period. The material you posted pretty much falls outside that narrow range.
... on this board who fits your description. True, some of us are just starting out and don't know a whole lot about jazz from all periods but we greatly appreciate it when someone posts/recommends new stuff. Why don't you join in the fun ?
are interested in and enjoy a wide variety of jazz from all eras. Hey, once in while several people who normally respond may be in a busy period. That was true for me this time. I took a quick listen, but I was stumped by most of Kava's latest batch, and I doubt I was the only one. Some of us are probably more familiar with certain eras. But that doesn't necessarily mean we don't like batches from earlier or later periods.
.. but I enjoyed the cuts very much, just didn't have any good guesses.
for that - couldn't help but wonder though.

I've run very short of time these last weeks. I downloaded the tunes into my computer but haven't managed to listen to them yet, so go figure. I not even can comment how I liked them. I didn't listen the previous bunch either.Thank you very much for your efforts guys, I hope I can meet the next show.
Hey Kava,Sorry, I couldn't give these the attention they deserved -- I've hardly had time for *any* music the past 2 weeks. The first piece is the only one I managed to hear closely - beautiful tune. Initially thought it may be Basie's band with guest soloists... in short I had no clue.
Apart from being a lot busier than usual I've got the ignoramus excuse -- I had no clue about any of the pieces and knew that the players were all new to me.
Actually I am quite surprised no one else responded. Generally if one of us has an off week the others pick up the slack. Hope this doesn't put a permanent damper on this. Would hate to lose my number one source of interesting new music !!!
at least I know there wasn't a boycott. Did you make the connection on Bill Chase. Great trumpeter who went on to form a Brass-based rock band called "Chase". Then he went and got killed in a planbe crash

I got the Glen Gray thing and Bill Chase with Woody. Didn't remember who the bari player was in that band. I chalk that stuff up to age.....again.
the bari player was a local boy from up here. Ended up teaching at SUNY but died a couple of years ago. Nick Brignola - very well regarded.

opionated.com showed up in my mailbox later then my post. It is "postmarked" earlier but the notification took a while.

Nope. Never heard of Chase. The trumpeter on #6 sounded a bit like Maynard Ferguson to me but the tone is of course all different.
... THANKS!!! I know this whole exercise may sometimes feel like dangling pearls before swine... but I am sure a lot of us appreciate the effort that's put in. I will definitely get to these once things ease up at my end.
