If you listen to Neil Young, imagine it's Bruce Dern singing - you won't be able to get it out of your head.
Follow Ups:
I was listening to Neil Young singing Cortez the Killer just now, and it struck me: I have the two of them totally stuck together in my head. So I did a search on "neil Young" AND "Bruce Dern", and THIS is where it took me.
Both are great writers. Niether are known for their great voices. Both have quirky voices that are an acquired taste. However, both are great.
NY is an incredible accoustic and electric guitar player. I saw Dylan in concert a few years ago and was blown away by his electric guitar playing.
I'm not always sure what motivates people to put others down. I tend not to listen, or care any longer, if I don't like someone's music.
I was in line at Starbucks this morning, and "helpless, helpless, helpless" was coming out of their speakers. Not completely paying attention, I thought at first I was hearing some terrible female singer until I recognized it was Mr. Screechy. By the way, I also can't stand his herky jerky, spastic guitar leads either. Sure was a stark contrast when compared to his CSNY bandmate Stills' smooth, rhythmic leads. I do, however, think Neil Young wrote some great stuff when with Buffalo Springfield. This weekend I was listening to "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" and "I Am A Child", both great songs.
I'm relieved that Neil Young fans don't go to Starbucks. If his albums go on sale their I'll hang my rock & roll.
Be careful what you wish for
