Youtube video...Lincoln's in great voice, and check out Sanborn's solo (and his hair)! Sure would be nice if this series came out on DVD someday...

Follow Ups:
There's another video on that web site with Abbey, Sanborn, and Phil Woods. Sanborn has a decent solo and Woods a great brief one - the difference between a very good player and a giant.
i got into abbey with her song-the music is the magic-from 'the devils got your tongue' album and ive been hooked ever since.sanborns best work was done on early michael franks albums and when he went smoooov, i was disappointed. his album 'another hand' is a great exception and is rather straight ahead. check it out.

I still think Sanborn's best work was with the Butterfield Blues Band - especially that solo on "In My Own Dream", but then I'm old! I think the guy has had a very distinctive voice on the alto for a long time, and is a remarkable player. Night Music presents much great playing by him in unique settings and he handles them with aplomb, taste and ...respect. I can't listen to his recordings though, my taste and tolerance for the smooth jazz thing was used up decades ago. It's a frustration - I really like his playing and sound, just don't like the music he usually plays...I will check out "Another Hand" though, thanks!
I've dug Abbey Lincoln since I first heard "We Insist" 30 years ago. There are some other great clips on Youtube with her and Roach. Check 'em out!
