Certainly very striking dissonances. I can see why these sounds would carry long distances outdoors. There's also a Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 which I never got. This music sounded rather bright and harsh over previous speakers (I'm not sure I ever heard them with my penultimate ones--I hadn't heard this CD for years). The dissonances sound much better on my current current speakers. Now that I have listened to this CD again, I'll keep Vols. 2 and 3 on my acquisition list awaiting a good price.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on this selection of Armenian music, I have only ventured as far as volume 2.If you do like it, I promise not to say "Anatolia so".
I listened to some of the short samples on Amazon.com and it's sounds lovely, though rather slow. Is there much contrast between the pieces?

Contrast- I really haven't considered that aspect-thematically, rhythmically - yes, they are consistent. Perhaps you'd need to listen to all of the volumes to gain a broader perspective on traditional Armenian music.I think that "Chianr Es"- the plane tree song stands out on that CD, but I think I'll have to listen to some more Hovhannes. I find that some of those traditional songs seem familiar !
