from 1977- just after the record was made, with the Hot Band (Elvis alums, Rodney Crowell, and Albert Lee) at their peak, I think. There are quite a number of interesting ELH videos there, but this one is deadly, IMO. Talent and looks like this is hard to imagine.

I think there's a law. Regards,
I love "Poncho And Lefty" as sung by Emmylou. I still have the original recording on CD. I like Emmylou's version better than Willy's-Waylon's'.
For me, if I die and go to heaven and the angels don't look like and sing like Emmylou, I want a refund!
Understandably one might be blown away by Emmylou's beautiful voice, but the leaner production and voice of Willie Nelson, or Townes Van Zandt himself, is a truer messenger of this ballad's poignant lyrics - IMO.
What impresses itself upon me is that 'Pancho and Lefty' is a piece that Emmylou still includes in her solo shows. To actively advocate a song for over 30 years is really something, not that others haven't given it justice as well. Along with 'Boulder To Birmingham' it's one of her 'standards'...
which TVS and Willie did "inhabit" nicely...but that voice- cuts me right to the bone every time!
I can't imagine a poor version of it. Regards,
