You're talking the Schiff w/Maxim Shostakovich conducting? Outstanding. It's recently be remastered in the Originals series.
I own it but haven't listened to it since I bought it a few years back. I'll check it out tonight.

Schiff is certainly an alternative - his bowing is quite different than Rostropovich. Schiff's sound is more bright and focused, resulting in a clear separation between him and the orchestra. From my one time listen I enjoyed the performance. It was never over the top or micromanaged. I particularly liked the slow movement.
