The wife gets President's day off, so I'm taking the day off and we're travelling to KC for a long weekend. We picked KC becuase I spent the 70's there, we haven't visited for ~15 years, and we scored some cheap e-fares.Looking for things to do I saw that WR is at the Blue Room this Sat. night, which is attached to the American Jazz Museum. This is all new since I was in KC, so I'm looking forward to seeing all the sites.
I'm not very familiar with WR, but looking here I picked up some mixed "reviews." I'm hoping Geri Allen is touring with him. Any insights to his current tour would be appreciated.

Follow Ups:
Please, let us know which Miles era, if any Wallace Rooney is in after you have seen his performance.I saw him a number of times near the turn of the century and he was more in the Herbie, Tony, Wayne, and Ron quintet mode. His brother was there on reeds in the band I saw and they just burned. I saw them at Sweet Basil's in Manhattan. That old Village haunt has changed as well.
I enjoyed the Wallaces' performances and I would like to know where they are at this juncture.
While you're in KC for the weekend, you might consider visiting the WW I Museum at the Liberty Memorial. It just opened and has been widely praised. It's the only one in the USA.
Just down the hill from the museum in the Freightyards District is Fiorella's JackStack BBQ in a renovated warehouse. It's excellent BBQ in a great setting. "Lidia's", owned by Lidia Bastianich of NYC resturant fame and the PBS television show is just down the way from JackStack.
A few blocks from there is the Cross Roads District where art galleries, boutiques, and new resturants( KC does like to dine out) are thriving.
We just got about 3" of snow last night but the forecasts call for a warming trend starting Friday. The largest used record and cd stores are gone but that shouldn't stop you from having a good time.
We'll try to check these out.I was looking at the Peach Tree for a pre-show dinner, but I'll look into these as well. I'm an old Gates and Sons fan, so I'll be eating there at least once. I'm a Rockhurst grad and we always hit the Gates at The Paseo and Swope Parkway for late-night munchies.

The Union Station is holding an exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The selection is on loan from the Isreali government.
Don't know about his current tour or stuff but he is a clone of one particular era of Miles. That's been his thing for quite a while and I'm pretty sure he hasn't changed.
Wallace played and subbed for Miles at his last concert-Live in Montreaux. Obviously Miles and Quincy Jones could have had any trumpeter that they wanted to play with Miles. So must have approved of his playing.

Which era? If you are referring to the 'second' great quintet era with Wayne and Herbie, I believe Wallace has move past that. The last thing I bought by him was more of the 'Bitches Brew' or 'Man with the Horn' period......
Probably up to there by now.
Probably....:)
I've read where he has a "turntablist" in his sextet. so it should be an "interesting" show.
