I drooled over it and a pair of L100s for quite awhile. Wound up buying a 1060 integrated and L36s which was a big chunk of change for a high schooler. But I drove a VW so didnt need to fed the muscle car monkey :)The 2275s specs per the Marantz Service Manual:
75 watts, 8 ohms
75 watts, 4 ohms
40 watts, 16 ohms
damping factor 60These were produced in the day when 4 ohm speakers were rare and 16ohm horns were common. They drive the resistive load okay, but its still not quite enough power for peak perform IMHO.
Follow Ups:
Hey AMT,How is your Audiosource 7t working out? My 60wpc Vectuer Club Six sounds much smoother to me but the bass is not as tight. I'm finding out that 60 wpc is more than enough for the SMGa's. I did the Peter Gunn crossover mod and to my ears they seem more efficient than stock...it might me the better bracing though.
Pete, Well may general assessment of the S7 is that it is an outstanding value. To be honest, I didnt expect it to be eqivalant to a high-end amp, just in the neighorhood hopefully.I have noticed that 1) It is getting better with more hours logged on it. Ive listened to only about 5 CDs and thats it. The bass is extending and the mids are becoming fuller. 2) This amp does not perform at its best at lower output. The TA0104A has its lowest distortion @ 4ohms @ 30 watts and highest efficiency over 100 so I believe idling at 10-20 watts isnt ideal. I have started operating it at a minimum of 40watts (if the VUs are accurate) And both the SMGAs and the amp sound very good. The bass response great. Tight, solid and extended. With lots of LF info, I can watch the needle jump to past 100 and there is no strain or lack of bass drive. Lots of headroom.
I think that after a 100 hours or so, it should reveal its true nature. And tweaking it probably in order too.
How many hours are on yours?
Actually I only have about 5 hours on it so I'm looking forward to see what it can do down the road
