The TVC is a passive preamp, w/o active circuits do very little to degrade the signal, but can’t help "fix" (any recordings or system deficiencies) or add anything either. If your current preamp is more constricted, congested, etc., the passive can improve the results by passing along a cleaner signal. Are you sure your preamp now is the bottleneck?

Follow Ups:
Good question.I have a heavily moded (pro, not DIY) CD player with rather nondescript IC's and Speaker cables. My amp is in good shape but I have a prototype (pre-production) SS preamp. The Promitheus TVC is only about $400 and has been getting rave reviews. Of course, since it is made in Maylaysia I can't audition it.
There are some passives, in country, that you can try w/o having to do business overseas; Sonic Euphoria, Luminous audio Axiom reference and Placette come to mind to name just a few(there are more).
The Sonic Euphoria has a 30 day home trial period; the only way to truly know if a passive will work for you is..."try before you buy"!IMO, passive pre's are the 2nd best way to really hear the potential of your system; direct connection(if applicable) being the best choice if your source is up to the task.
I’ve not heard the Promitheus TVC, but apparently it comes close…scary close…to matching the more expensive ones for less. Unfortunately, passives don’t work with all components or systems. The only way to know for sure is to try it your own system. In general, passives require the:
· Source to have a high enough output to drive the amp w/o additional pre-amplification
· Amplifier to have a low enough input sensitivity
· Speakers should be easy to drive
· Interconnect cables of low capacitance and lengths as short as possible
· Output impedance of the source component to the amplifier to be at least a multiple of hundred smaller than the input impedance of the amplifier.I'm not good with the technical stuff, but if you post some specs about your cdps' output impedance and voltage and your amps' input sensitivity and input impedance...hopefully someone or "gmood" over in the amp/pre forum who owns the promithius and can crunch the numbers.
BTW, i believe there's a thread on audiocircle (the really long one?) about a demo unit going on tour.
