Thanks for the offer. Did you use this unit to pick off the lows of your main signal,(after your main amp) for your subwoofers?
Follow Ups:
Well, it is actually a complete crossover that keeps the low bass out of the Maggies and feeds only low bass to the subwoofer. The main advantage here is that the Maggies have less distortion and will play slightly louder.
a) it doesn't seem to be "line level" ... it seems to be "speaker level". The difference is a "line level" XO comes before the amps and has RCAs (or DINs/balanced) for ICs whereas a "speaker level" XO comes after the amp and has Binding Posts, for speaker cable.b) as an XO it consists of a single coil and a single cap ... ie. 6dB lowpass and 6dB highpass. Yes, it's "keeping the low bass out of the Maggies and feeding only low bass to the subwoofer" but I suggest this is too low a slope to really do a good job.
Regards,
Another case of my fingers being ahead of my brain. Yes, speaker level. At 100Hz, the response of this crossover is down 3db and at 50Hz, it is down 9db. 9db is one eighth of the power as 0db. Makes a difference in the wattage delivered to the Maggies at low freqs. Plus, I was just fooling around, and this seemed to work pretty well. Anyway it passed the Edgar Winter "Frankinstein" test with flying colors.
Hey andy,On a related note, is a higher slope better when transitioning between bass and speaker?
Hi DR,IMO, that question will get 10 different answers as to what is best from 10 different "experts" (and I'm certainly not an expert!). :-))
I can think of several reasons why 48dB would be better than 24dB ... and several why it wouldn't!! :-)) I really think if you're interested in resolving this issue optimally, you need to get hold of a flexible digital XO and experiement with different combinations.
Regards,
Hey Andy,I do have such a crossover, and will try them all at some point, but I just wanted to see how they do it in OZ :)
They do it upside down. :)
