Is there any rules about cleaning the grills on 57s? I do a lot of dusting with a feather duster but they really seem dirty because we've had some construction in our neighborhood lately. Can I use a damp cloth? Or what else?
Follow Ups:
A damp cloth or sponge with a little detergent works. I believe Gary Jacobson has suggested whitewall tire cleaners which are a little stronger but clean deeper. For stubborn spots (especially on the bronze or copper colored grills) I use a little naphtha but if the grills have been touched up I wouldn't do that. A more thorough cleaning involves removing the grills & hosing them down.Sandro
...I have found for these aluminium grilles is Alloy Wheel cleaner (various brands) which is guranteed by the manufacturer's *not* to eat holes in your precious Mag-Alloy wheels.Remove the grille from the speaker, take it out in the garage or back yard, spray it with this gunk boith sides and hose it off after the specified time and leave it to air dry. Repeat the process if you think they really need it.
Works wonderfully well. You can spray coat the dry finished grille with Incralac if you think it needs a showroom finish.
