Return to Planar Speaker Asylum

Hell, it's like.......sex. (that's all YOUR fault, Mr. Gunn)There seems to be no concensus at all about how to place your speakers. The 'traditionalists' do the two in front of me thing, with variations of straight ahead or towed in (or out!) at various angles. Then, there's nearfield and midfield and farfield. And, how 'bout close together, far, far apart (that's how I like it) and everything in-between. We even have folks who swear by the point the edges at me set up. 'Sup wid all dat? Of course, some of us have domestic considerations to worry about (the ol' SO), but still, seems like there would be the ONE best way of listening. Obviously, NOT.

Follow Ups:
changing anything but toe-in for the closest position. Sometimes I even leave them straight (no toe in) when I'm up close! Depends on the MuSiC and what sound I'm going for.So many different ways to enjoy the different sounds (atmosphere?)Maggies can create.
I've been stuck w/ only 1 listening position for years in smaller apartments and studio houses (and MUCH smaller rooms), and still made the best of it. Nothing beats a dedicated large room, if you can do it though.

That's a first. I never heard that sex was all my fault......Anyway, people still argue over how to clean a record. You'd think that would have been put to bed years ago too.
I think there is one best way to play maggies.
There isn't one best way to agree on what that is however :^ )
For the sex, that is, if, indeed, it really is YOUR fault! And now I believe you've achieved godlike status. Own any stock?
No, no stock, but if I somehow manage to help you guys get some then that's reward enough.Although it's sounding like the opposite is happening. :^ )
See, there's this "box" we have to sit in along with our speakers. No two boxes are built exactly alike nor are they filled with the same stuff. What works in my "box" may be totally different than what works in your "box".Um, PG, please no pics pertaining to positions or boxes. You've already gotten one Asylum member in trouble today...
hehe
Yah, that's certainly part of it but it turns out that many rooms are very much alike, yet the speakers can be positioned very differently. Just look at the pics from the previous post. Lots of similarities in rooms, I thought. What works in my "box" may be totally different than what works in your "box".
Perhaps I'm having a problem with the phrase "totally different".
Anyway, I'm still surprised about how people listen. Are they listening for the wide soundstage, tight focus, diffused sound picture, punchy bass, ultra detail, warm midrange?
How about: May be totally different or anywhere in between ;^).
