Travis,My bad on what I wrote. I didn't mean my tweeters, I just meant my tweeter FUSES. I'll edit my post above. Sorry about the confusion...ya, I'd be pissed if my tweeter blew the 1st day of listening to it!
I'd be plenty surprised if the Zeus didn't power the 3.6's the way I want...the power supply alone is over 120-125lbs! + I could always biamp w/ my 150's also, but I will be VERY surprised if that's necessary. As I'm sure you know, it's the QUALITY of each watt that counts
Follow Ups:
Be careful about bi-amping. If you clip the waveform on the ribbons, you risk blowing them. I had 100WPC tube just on the tweeters (Atma-Sphere and Berning, autoformered ) and they blew. I'm not familiar with the 150. "Maybe" it would be O.K. on the ribbons.
"If you clip the waveform on the ribbons, you risk blowing them"could you elaborate or send me a link to a site that can.
Thanx,
Jon
BTW the 150's actually work great w/ the 3.6's, but I have no doubt the Zeus will be a big improvement for my listening preferences.
If you look at the amplifier's output on a scope, if it is clipping you will see the top of the waveform sliced off. This means the amp is being called upon to deliver more power than it is capable of. This in turn creates distortion which does bad things to the ribbon. You can hear the distortion through the speaker. Obviously, I'm not a tech(!) but this is what I have seen, heard and experienced.
