Part of what made him a millionaire is the fact that he's a tightwad. To someone who views an auto as simply transportation, anything that runs will do. Others who really enjoy driving may prefer a BMW.I love music, but I also have to provide for my family. I bought a used amp, and I selected it for its value - performance *and* functionality both factor into the term value (along with cost).

You know it's interesting, I heard one time that someone evaluated self-made millionaires, and one of the recurring themes they found was that they wouldn't give up a penny that they didn't have to.The neighborhood that I live in has a lot of old money. But, you go by a lot of the homes and they are still driving the 84 Benz they bought back in 84. Now you go into the cracker-box, new, upscale neighborhoods, and everyone is driving the latest BMW. It's probably a safe bet which one of the two people actually has more money and less debt...:)
there are a LOT of Maggie owners out there that are quite happy with so-called 'sub par' equipment (amps in particularly) -yet tend to be 'gun shy' in revealing their choices due to unfair criticism which may float their way. I personally think that's a shame since the whole idea of having a forum is to have a platform in which to exhibit, share and have an exchange of ideas.I can remember when I first got my Maggies (along with an Adcom 555 -hey I was dirt poor!) and having found this forum, I decided to share my enthusiasm, only to be scoffed at my choice of equipment! And to be honest, I didn't think the Adcom was all that bad..
I don't think there's anything wrong with someone suggesting a alternative choice in equipment per say; I just tend to think when it's time to change equipment...your Maggies will let you know; not Joe Blow who's gone through 'x' number of amps and 'y' amount of dollars and for some reason can't understand why a person is 'content' with a $400 amp!

Yep. I'm using the power amp section of a 30 year old Kenwood KA-9100 to drive my MMGs. Plenty of power when high passed through an electronic crossover.Nobody's suggested that I go away...yet!
I've always wanted to hook up my Kenwood KR-9400 receiver to my Maggies. It is the most powerful amp I own (125w/c) but I really like the sound of my little KT88 mono blocks.
Depending on where the OP lives, there may be a pro store/outfit that will have his Behringer (or whatever similar amp) available for rental, a perfect way to audition it with his new Maggies. Or find a local or internet based merchant with a liberal return policy.I've been guilty myself of taking the cheapo route, to get instantaneous results. One doesn’t go hungry cause he can’t afford caviar. :) If Mr. Bullfrogg will also be in need of a subwoofer, to go with his MGIIIs, the Behringer 1500/2500 is very popular sub amp for the DIY sub builder.
He could "suffer" with the Behringer, until he can afford a better amp, than use the 1500 for a sub, or sell it.
just my 2 cents, as someone here is found of saying.
