Sorry about these newbie questions but, I'm considering purchasing the Magnepan MG-12 speakers and would like to know what people are using for speaker cables. Are the MG-12's bi-wireable? Do they accept spade connectors or will I have to use banana type connectors. Thanks.
Follow Ups:
None at all...using AutoZero transformers between my monoblocs and my 12's. So, I guess technically I'm using the 12 gauge magnetic wire the Zeroes are wired with.
1) No. At least not in stock form. They can be (relatively) easily modified for bi-wire/bi-amp, however.2) Neither. As great as Magnepans are, they utilize a proprietary and incredibly crappy connector system that will accept only pins or bare wire. However, this can also be easily rectified.
3) I use Heartland cables (Canare) in a vertical bi-amp with my mmg's. Price is right, supremely well made, great service, fast turnaround, like the sound. He'll put pins on one end if needed. No affiliation, bla bla.
In stock form they are not bi-wireable, but my MG-12's had the speaker connectors attached via a lock-nut on the inside of the speaker, so you can rewire for bi-wiring without cutting anything and it's reversable. You can use spade connectors, but it's an iffy connection. Bannanas or bare wires are best. Magnepan makes an adapter to attach spades more solidly, plugs into the back of the stock connectors. Your Maggie dealer should know where to get it.
Signal Cable Ultra Single Wire cables. Buy them here , thank me later. :^ )
