Sorry about the OSUHOG reference - I forgot in which thread I was posting. There was a discussion about the relative merits of pro amps in that thread too. I'll try to pay better attention to where I am in the future (feel really stupid).
Follow Ups:
Don't feel bad! People are arguing about whether the original poster would be better of with a pro-amp, or something more expensive, for his 1.6s....yet the question was what amp would be good for his MG10 surround speakers! Unless I'm also confused....
Hey Rod, I think Jim and I had the same reading of the original post:Hello all,
So I pulled the trigger on a pair of used MG1.6QRs for use as my mains, and moved my MG10s to rear channel duty. Out of the amps I have, which one would you recommend to use to power them, or maybe something completely different?:
Electron Kinetics Eagle 2A or,
Marantz MA-500 or,
Adcom GFA-555For reference, I'm using a Classe Fifeteen for the 1.6s.
I took the "them" in the following part "which one would you recommend to use to power them," to mean the 1.6's.
SInce Jim was saying to use the behringer, that reinforced the idea I had of the 1.6s.
Also, I thought the classe fifteen referenced was a pre-amp....
Yep, that's apparently the question. For rear channel duties wouldn't any of the ones he listed work fine?
Yes Rod H and Wazoo, your are right; the question is amplification for MG10s as rear channels. And, Im thinking (looking for confirmation) that any of the amps I listed (own now, so no further cash outlay) would work fine... question is, which would the forum members go with? And speaking of amp classifications...the new D-class (Tripath or ICE?) look very interesting...
The Adcom is getting a bit old and so is the Kinetics (you did say 2A, right?). Both are likely due for an overhaul, but of the two I'd guess the Kinetics has a smoother top end. Then again, for rear channel duties (even driving a pair of MG10s), the little Marantz amps should have plenty of juice; they're quite a bit younger too. At the end of the day, however, *I* really don't know.
