"I guess that is what I get for trying to help fit the swarm into your room :)"What's the point of opulence if it doesn't get in the way? It's like taking a treasure bath. :^ )
Archiving? Are you nuts? Do you think I have the time to sit at this computer (that I hate) and download ALL of my discs? In case you didn't know I have a music review website, I am DROWNING in discs. The thought of that is simply impossible.
"writing on the wall" Gee, that sounds prophetic... didn't someone say that about LP's 20 years ago? :^ ) (and tube gear 40 years ago?) It's bullshit, don't believe it. We have weapons of amazing ability today, and guys still hunt with bows and percussion caps. All you're talking about is convenience sucking the life out of.....life.
I say no thanks, and I will till I die. I've seen the future. It blows. What is it we're supposed to do when life becomes so "done" for us there is nothing for us to do? Now I don't care if anyone else does it, I simply can't imagine why they would want to. I've heard full digital front ends and I've hated them. I also believe my Lector is 99% as good as vinyl. Why would I replace it? If it breaks, I'll have it fixed. I will never do what you do, ever. I'd sooner stop completely.
By the way, if (or is that when) your hard drive crashes with all that on it, then what do you do? :^ )
To each his own, cest la vie! :^ )
Follow Ups:
Ah, treasure!Alright PG, don't say crazy Dawnrazor didn't try to save you from yourself.
BUt what if it could sound better than vinyl? The potential is there and some day someone will do it.
Hard drives are pretty cheap so I have a couple that have the same files, and I do still have the original cds. And better sounding black cd versions too.
To each his own, cest la vie! :^ )
Agreed You can lead a horse to water... :)
Save me from myself? I'm trying to save your soul. :^ )Your one line I think highlighted the entire problem with audio.
"But what if it could sound better..."
Why is better the goal, and how do we know when we've reached it? I have heard the same instrument in multiple venues and it sounds better and worse each time. Which one was the better one? Which was the real one? Which the right one?
IMHO, this is supposed to be about enjoyment , not chasing the "best" sound. Chasing the "best" sound is what puts audiophiles on the endless loop of misery. The people on here with Behringer amps are happy, and I know those things sound like crap. I was happy for years with an Adcom GFA-555 and that thing was a hunk of crap too.
There is simply no joy for me in your way, so lets just settle it. I concede the orgasmatron will give me a climax like I never had, and could have no other way.
But I'll still take a real woman with all her inherent flaws and foibles over that any day. Maybe one day you'll see it my way :^ )
But I'll still take a real woman with all her inherent flaws and foibles over that any day. Maybe one day you'll see it my way :^ )Now you are talking. Chicks rock! Got any numbers I can call??
You talk about enjoyment. Well, I for one have MORE enjoyment with a PC based system. I actually listen to more and varied music.
NO way I am going to get into vinyl. My system would suck then. All the money into a turntable, tone arm, cartridges that wear out (why is a hard drive crashing any different if you have a back up?), and a phono pre amp, and a pre amp, cables, etc.
I'll spend the dough on better amps and better speakers, subs etc.
ANyhow, I knew I was wading into turbulent waters and that you wouldn't drink.
I am a curmudgeon, I cannot deny that. But I am an honest one. If what you do gives you hapiness then as I said I have no problem with it. I simply draw the line at your notion that it's not only for everyone, but we'll all be forced to do it in the very near future , like it or not.I don't like it. That's police state mentality. If I want to use a Tandberg receiver and a reel to reel till my dying day I will be able to, and nobody can stop me. Nor should they wish to.
I don't understand why everyone thinks vinyl is such a problem. Obviously if you're using a computer you don't have a preamp but that's your own fault for using such a wacky thing to begin with :^ ), and if you clean your records right and from the start and take care of things nothing wears out. My cartridge is 20 years old and I couldn't guess the hours on it. Sounds as good as ever (thank you Last) and my records have no surface noise at all, despite who knows how many spins. (thank you Last and Nitty Gritty)
Nothing would please me more than getting your ass here, sitting you down and letting you bathe in my system for a day and then ask you how you feel about things. :^ )
I can't help you with chicks however, married for 17 years. I don't have any numbers anymore :^ )
PG,My grandparents live in your state, so one day, I might just appear in your listening room.
I might just enjoy that, but you are going to have to get that ass of your up to change the records.....
I've been wishing for another cup for the flyers for 35 years. Still nothing. And I would enjoy your visit.
And I've enjoyed the exchange we had here too. Thanks :^ )
Me too PG on all accounts.I went through a hockey phase and loved the Flyers. That was nearly 20 years ago.
I loved Hextal and crew but if memory serves edmonton always won.
So yeah lets get them another cup.
See, except for your boyish good looks and the anti computer deal, we are similiar on quite a few things.
Yes, yes, edmonton always won.....Ahhh, my boyish good looks. At least it still helps me with the ladies
