...here is a link to a photo that I hope works.
But what's that unit to the left of the TV and behind one of your MMGs? A fancy subwoofer?
Thanks! That's the left channel transmission line subwoofer. There's another one behind the right speaker. They are a 5' tall version of what was originally a 4' tall design from Roger Sanders. He specified Dynaudio woofers, but mine have Dayton 12" DVC woofers in them.
Sorry about the crummy photo )-:
I'd love to hear that setup - very nice. Have you ever heard any of his (well, Innersound's) electrostatic hybrids? (I hope it's not some kind of violation to mention electrostatics in a Maggie thread.)I've seen those speakers before, but I don't remember the plasma TV - how do you like it? I'm planning to replace an aging CRT TV later this year; the prices are getting reasonable.
I've never heard the Inner Sound electrostats. Actually, the only electrostats I recall ever hearing were Quads, and that was a very long time ago. I still remember how nice the vocals were on them!We just got the plasma set last month. So far we love it! It's a Panasonic TH42PH9UK, which is the commercial model with no stand, speakers or tuner...perfect for our application. The only hassle so far is spending a minute of so adjusting the aspect ratio for some films so there are no black bars. So far about 95% of the DVDs we've watched can be adjusted so there are no black bars or distortion.
The prices are really reasonable on them now, and what cemented the deal for me is that a free 5 year extended warranty rebate is available on this set from at least some dealers (perhaps all) until the end of March.
Hmmm...I had been leaning towards an LCD, but it's hard to discount the price benefit of plasma. The image produced by the plasmas has improved mightily over the years - look outstanding these days. That set costs less today than my 36" Proscan did when I bought it - now that's a bargain! I think a 42" is pretty much the ideal size in most rooms - certainly would work in mine. The idea of watching movies on a 16:9 set is very appealing indeed.
