What do folks think about using this on the ribbons? (Innersound ESL 300 below). I've always like Mosfets for warmth.
Follow Ups:
I found the Innersound 300 to match up very well with 3.6. Get another one and bi-amp if you like, only $1500 proly.
You'd have mosfets for current gain and a single tube for voltage gain (and the tubes you choose make a big difference in the sound and can really mellow out your ribbons). I'm currently using SE-250s but not biamping - the ribbons are not shrill at all and I listen mostly to classic 70s rock at relatively high spls. The SM-70 Pros would probably not balance well with the Innersound given the Innersound's 300 wpc at 8 ohms and the Pros 40 wpc at 8 ohms (assuming you've got two of the Pros running as monos rather than a single stereo amp). Impedance stability should not be an issue with either Monarchy, but if you do go with either one be sure to check for input sensitivity issues regarding your preamp of choice.
Yes, when bi-amping the 3.6R you can run any amps you want. The easiest solution is to have identical amps with the same gain and sonic signature. After that, you can only "try and apply" to see what works, and many here have succesfully mixed tube with ss, etc.The MG3.6R biamp situation (aprox. 250Hz XO point) calls for equal powered amps (i.e > 200W per channel) for low and mid/high, which in reality means at least 400W per channel (4 ohms) for the mid/high amp if you listen loudly (or want to by-pass the mid/high fuses).
Your ownership of the Innersound indicates your lust for power. So it would be very unlikely that you would have success with the Monarchy. I highly recommend Mosfet amps. I currently use two GamuT D200's, and built a Hafler DH-500 years ago which was a Mosfet design.
