I am also using a Hsu active cross over. I was hoping that a cross over piont higher than 40 Hz would blend because that would reduce the load on my PS Audio HCA-2 and thereby make the Maggies more dynamic. Before I order new cross over chips, I would be interested in whether you have tried 50 Hz or 75 Hz
Follow Ups:
Every sub and room are different but I just don't think you can get a really good blend with anything much over 50 Hz.I also have biamped at the sub level and I think the gains from keeping frequencies under 75 Hz or so out of the Maggie 1.6 are overstated. They roll off naturally around 45 Hz. I have heard them both ways and I prefer to let them do their own low end rolloff.
Reducing the load on your PS Audio HCA-2 and thereby make the Maggies more dynamic? I don't think this will be significant.
Do you use a cross over to split the signal coming out of the preamp between the sub and the 1.6s at 45 Hz or do you run the 1.6s full frequency and just suppulement with the sub below 45 Hz.
Yes, I> > run the 1.6s full frequency and just suppulement with the sub below 45 Hz.
Then I have an active XO at 550 Hz for the bass/tweeter xover. My Hsu sub takes the input from the speaker outs of the bass amp.
I have never been happier with the Maggies.
This is very interesting. Do you have to moddified the XO in the 1.6s. Mine are new and I don't want to blow the warrenty if I don't have to. Have you moddified your XO. What active XO are you using. This may be a great option for me. I have a spare amp and my Veloydine sub execpts speaker level inputs.
invest in a set of Mye stands. Huge improvement.
