Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
65.2.77.244
I am going to be upgrading my 2.6's to 3.6's in the very near future. I want to try the bi-amp route and the owners manual on the magnepan website says use a electronic crossover. any suggestions are most welcome.
Follow Ups:
That's what I use. Change frequencies and slopes on the fly.
A Marchand XM44 kit is on it's way to my doorstep. I plan on trying the stock crossover slopes first , then experiment. The MX-44 and the tube XM-26 are the only ones that allow the mixed slopes that the stock 3.6 crossover has IIRC. Next, will be trying a SS amp on the bass and tubes on top.
You might want to do a search in this asylum 'cause there is a lot of data concerning 3.6 and 20.1 with an electronic crossover.
Cheers!
And NEXT, after that, you should go to 3-way active, for even more sonic refinement!! :-)) :-))Regards,
Bryston 10B Sub is what Magenpan is referencing in their 3.6 user's manual without explicitly calling out the brand and model number. I discovered this by speaking with a Magnepan employee. This mode comes in both balanced and single ended versions.DEQX is another option, but higher priced. It also comes in balanced and single ended versions.
I have used both on my 3.6's.
There are also Marchand electonic XO's that you can specificly order the individual XO points for.
If you search the threads, some people have also made their own. You may want to shout out specific questions to those indiduals.
