Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
66.32.131.54
I just scored a set of Centaur Minors for a GREAT deal--my first pair of ribbons. Quick setup and listening shows that, *in the sweet spot*, they image amazingly well, compared to my ADS L1290's and L810's. BUT, they have a very narrow sweet spot, and seem to be pretty fussy about setup and amplification.
For amps, I have available a modded ST70, a Citation 12, a Perreaux PMF2150B, and a Belles Model One. Are these speakers voltage hungry, current happy, a tricky impedance load? Which amp do y'all think would mate best with them? Any general (or even specific) setup and placement advice from the collective wisdom and experience of the asylum? I have searched, and only find general references to how great the ribbon is in this model, but little else. All info, specs and advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks for the replies, and for the link, ramallo. That was the portal to the treasure trove of info that I needed!! I now have the owners and setup manual, reviews and the resource of the AUG forum! Thanks again!
These speakers need a good 100W solid state amplifier (Or hybrid like Counterpoint SA100), too need a subwoofer, with a sub you can get a dramatic change in the sound of the Minors.
I used to own a pair of Centaur Minors...I own Duetta Signatures now. Here is a link to the Apogee speaker users forum. Use the "search" at the upper right....type in (Centaur Minor) for tons of info. While your there, join the forum if you would like... and say hello.
